Urethane Cement Flooring (UPC) for Portland and Vancouver
Concrete Coatings NW installs urethane concrete flooring that’s non-toxic, fully waterproof, and built to hold up in the spaces where other coatings fail.
Concrete Coatings NW installs urethane concrete flooring that’s non-toxic, fully waterproof, and built to hold up in the spaces where other coatings fail.
Urethane concrete flooring outperforms rigid coating systems in commonly occurring conditions: sustained moisture, temperature cycling, and slabs that are still settling. Concrete Coatings NW selects the base coat, color, and top coat independently for your floor’s condition and how the space gets used, so what goes down is built for the job.
Lifetime Green Coatings is the only urethane concrete coating that’s fully non-toxic. Concrete Coatings NW is the authorized dealer in Portland and Vancouver, and LGC’s proprietary formula delivers that standard without the price premium of comparable urethane cement systems.
Urethane cement is one of the most durable flooring systems available, and when the conditions call for it, it’s hard to beat. Reach out to Concrete Coatings NW and we’ll give you a straight read on whether UPC fits your floor, your space, and your goals.
Paul from Salmon Creek had a basement that had been fighting moisture for years. The original coating had failed, water was working through the concrete walls, and the floor itself had developed cracks over time. By the time he reached out, the damage had moved well past cosmetic.
How is urethane cement different from epoxy or polyaspartic?
Epoxy and polyaspartic coatings bond rigidly to the concrete, which makes them vulnerable to cracking when the slab moves, and many of them may not perform as well in high-moisture environments. Urethane cement is flexible, fully waterproof, and bonds well even when moisture is present in the slab. It also handles temperature swings and chemical exposure better than most alternatives. It’s a more demanding install, which is why not every contractor carries it, but for the right conditions, it’s the most durable option available.
What kinds of spaces is urethane concrete flooring a good fit for?
UPC performs best where other coatings tend to fail: high-moisture environments like basements and pool decks, outdoor surfaces exposed to Pacific Northwest weather, new construction where the slab is still settling, commercial kitchens that need NSF 61 certification, and any interior space where non-toxic materials are a requirement. We also install it in garages, patios, and walkways where long-term durability matters more than install speed.
Is urethane concrete flooring safe for indoor living spaces?
Yes, specifically the LGC product we install. It’s fully non-toxic and carries no off-gassing after cure, which makes it appropriate for occupied living spaces, bedrooms, and areas with limited ventilation. That’s not a claim that applies to all urethane cement products on the market.
What does NSF 61 certification actually mean?
NSF 61 is a third-party safety standard that certifies a product is safe for contact with drinking water and food surfaces. For a floor coating, it means the cured surface won’t leach harmful compounds into water or food that contacts it. It’s required by code in some commercial kitchens and food processing applications, and it’s increasingly requested in school facilities and healthcare settings. The LGC urethane cement we install is NSF 61 certified.
How does the installation process work?
Every UPC installation starts with diamond grinding the concrete to open the pores and ensure proper adhesion. We assess the moisture level, evaluate any cracks or damage, and determine whether a moisture barrier is needed before the base coat goes down. The UPC base coat is then applied, followed by your color layer and top coat, which are selected based on your application. The process typically takes one to two days depending on the size and complexity of the space.
